Grace Bible Church

Super Bowl Sunday held a lot of great surprises for me as I was preaching at Grace Bible Church in Florissant, Missouri. This church is pastored by Rev. Roderick Walker who has been an inspirational leader for this innovative congregation. It was also Cornerstone’s Booster Sunday where around 100 Converge churches highlighted the ministry of the Cornerstone Fund. My day began with a men’s Sunday school class where 30 or more African American men aggressively studied the Word of God. It was energizing to be involved in their unique and powerful ministry.

Community Life Church

There are only a few local churches in our movement which are truly multi-ethic.  Community Life Church led by Pastor Sammy Ortiz is one such church.  The vibrant congregation has people from numerous ethnic backgrounds.  Sammy is from Puerto Rico and his infectious personality attracts people to the ministry of the church.  The worship service is outstanding.  The worship team leads us into the presence of Almighty God and the church people are drawn into a participatory style of engaging worship.  Sammy and his dear wife Loretta have a heart for people and effective ministry.

Pastor Mark’s response voiced those golden words hoped for most from reading a Case Statement: “It made me want to invest in it.”

The Sunday morning service went very well.  The congregation filled the sanctuary.  It was great to see so many people.  Many of them were old acquaintances, having spoken at a banquet here several years ago, and a majority of the people knew about our Cornerstone Fund.  I spoke on the feeding of the 5000 from the Gospel of Matthew and entitled the message, “God will meet your needs.”  Muskegon is facing very extreme economic challenges in this downturn.  Unemployment, lay-offs and housing defaults are all present in this summer vacation destination.  A great many people responded openly to
